Who called me? Got a call from 04484

  This was a fully automated call, i.e. I answered and was met by a robot telling me it was an automated call from British Gas for Mr [not me]. Press 1 if you are not Mr [not me], press 2 if Mr [not me] is at home etc.<br /><br />3 menu levels down was eventually an option to press a digit if Mr [not me] does not live there and they have the wrong number. I had already received 2 missed calls from that number earlier in the day.

  Called repeatedly from a number that showed as 04484 560 32158 purporting to be from "Important fraud prevention call from Sainsburys bank"<br /><br />Will check with Sainsburys, but I doubt it.  Also, that number is malformed, and to long, a little twiddling suggests it may actually be a broken presentation number, viz +44 845 603 2158, or 0845 603 2158, a number that I called.  Got into que but no announcement of company name, which is very suspicious indeed.

  Got a call from a number '0448450701169' today.<br /><br />Apparently they were calling from British Gas, looking for someone who was not me.<br /><br />This is very strange. I am worried it is some calling scam to get control of my phone number or that I will incur a huge charge on my phone bill because I took the call.

  04484 numbers are a  automated call from British Gas looking for someone that they cannot find.

  I had a missed call from this number today - I didn't recognise the dialling code, so figured that it would be something odd and if they wanted to get hold of me, they would leave a meesage. Seeing this note nnow makes sense! If they want to speak to me, they'll have to call in person!

  I received 3 calls yesterday afternoon and 1 call today, leaving empty voicemails from "448456031154".<br /><br />They were calling one of my mobile numbers, for which I don't even have a handset to receive the call :-)<br /><br />I just checked the voicemail now, and it didn't tell me the number - so I had no idea who it was or what for.  However, when I pressed # to "call the person who left this message", the voicemail gave an error and spat out this number as an invalid number.<br /><br />If it's British Gas, that doesn't make much sense: I have no gas contract.  In fact I don't even own a home or pay any domestic bills as a lodger.  But it's possible someone had the mobile number before I got it, I suppose.<br /><br />However, given the timing for me at the moment, I wouldn't be surprised if it's a credit card company making a genuine call to confirm if a transaction is valid.  I made the mistake of not updating my phone number with the credit card company - they still had that mobile with no working handset.<br /><br />If that's the case, it would imply 04484 is a more generic prefix than just British Gas.

  Received several calls today for my daughter who does not live here any more.  044845603215 claiming to be a fraud prevention call. asking to press 1 if the person was there or 3 if she was not available.

  Same problems as well, automated call asking me to press a buttong to speak to someone.<br />A Waste of time.
